Billed as a regional business event for the Western Cape area of South Africa, Propak Cape targets manufacturers and suppliers involved with packaging, food processing, printing, labeling and plastics, and provides an opportunity to meet with visitors on neutral ground to further the interests of their respective businesses. Cape Town is at the hub of one of the world’s biggest emerging markets, making it the obvious choice of location for Propak Cape 2008.

The manufacturing sector is largely centered on food processing, with significant contributions from the plastics, printing and publishing industries. Packaging is an essential element as exports from the Western Cape are big business, traditionally being dominated by primary products such as fruit, fish and vegetables - accounting for 60% of regional exports. Beneficiation adds increasingly higher value.

The sheltered valleys between mountains are ideal for the cultivation of export-grade fruit such as apples, pears, table grapes, olives, peaches. South Africa's 300-year-old wine industry, based in the south of the province, produces 3.1% of the world's wine and ranks number nine in overall volume production; other key exports include wool and ostrich
