The Strength of the SA Economy

South Africa is the economic powerhouse on the African continent, with a gross domestic product (GDP) comprising 33% of the entire GDP of Africa. It is one of the most sophisticated and promising emerging markets in the world, offering a unique combination of highly developed first world economic infrastructure with a vibrant emerging market economy. Its major strengths include its communications network, transport infrastructure, natural mineral and metal resources, a growing manufacturing sector and potential to even further develop a strong tourism industry. GDP growth was 4.9% for 2006, with a projected average of about 5.1% a year over 2007-2009.*

The African Factor

South Africa is ideally positioned for easy access to the countries comprising the Southern African Development Community (SADC) – which have a combined GDP in the region of US$160-billion and some 185-million people - as well as into the rest of Africa, the islands off Africa's east coast, and the Gulf States and India. Well-developed road and rail links provide the platform and infrastructure for ground transportation deep into sub-Saharan Africa.*

South Africa also has the resident marketing skills and distribution channels imperative for commercial ventures into Africa.

These shows are promoted in African countries through associations, publications, Chambers of Commerce and Trade Consul Offices, attracting buyers from Africa, and also internationally through trade consuls and our own global agency network.
